In anticipation of the South Butler School District teachers going on strike later this week, the district is cancelling classes.
All district schools will be closed to students beginning Thursday, according to Superintendent David Foley. He sent a letter home to parents on Friday.
“The Board of School Directors recognizes the disruption and inconvenience that would be caused by a strike, and hopes that an agreement can be reached in an expedient manner,” Foley wrote in the letter.
South Butler students who attend Butler County Area Vocational-Technical classes will still attend those. The district will continue to provide transportation for Vo-Tech students, as well as students enrolled in private or alternative schools.
Athletic practices and games will not be cancelled. Extra-curricular events will be reviewed on an individual basis. Special events and activities will be postponed and rescheduled.
If an agreement is reached between the South Butler district and the teachers’ union, school could resume as early as Friday.
