Butler Township will hold a public hearing as part of the process to enact a revised floodplain ordinance.
The hearing will be held on May 21st at 7 p.m. at the Butler Township Building. Butler Township Commissioners could choose to finalize the new ordinance later that night but the deadline to do so is not until August.
According to Zoning Officer Jesse Hines, every municipality across the county and state is in the process of deciding if they will be approving a similar ordinance. The ordinance is provided by the PA Department of Community and Economic Development with limited opportunity for local variations.
This ordinance would replace the Township’s previous floodplain ordinance last updated in the mid 1990s and copies are available at the Municipal Building. An updated Flood Insurance Rate Map is now available for residents to access on the Federal Emergency Management Agency website.
