The South Butler teachers are inviting the public to attend a rally before Wednesday night’s South Butler County school board meeting as the teachers’ strike continues.
The rally will start at 6:30 p.m. and the board meeting will begin at 7 p.m.
The teachers went on strike on Thursday, March 15 after an agreement could not be reached with the school board. This is the fifth day that students have not been in school.
Both sides did agree through a state-appointed mediator to meet for a negotiation session on Monday at 7 p.m. This will be the first session since before teachers decided to go on strike.
In a news release issued Tuesday, the teachers’ negotiator Brooke Witt, said the South Butler teachers’ salary and health insurance requests are affordable and would not necessitate a tax increase.
The Pennsylvania Department of Education has decided that South Butler teachers will return to class by April 3 even if no agreement has been reached.
