The company that owns the nuclear power plant in Beaver County intends to shut it down in three years.
FirstEnergy Solutions, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp., notified authorities of the proposed shutdown on Wednesday, according to a press release.
Two other plants in Ohio are also scheduled to close.
The Beaver Valley Power Station went online in the mid 70s and employs about 1,000 people. The company says “market challenges” forced the decision and called for lawmakers to consider “policy solutions” to prevent the closures.
