Although Opening Day for the Pirates was moved from Thursday to Friday due to rain, baseball fanatics won’t have to worry about the weather when learning more about local baseball history.
Author Dess Schnur recently completed a new book about Pullman Park.
“The objective of this book was to touch base on everything that has occurred at Pullman Park,” Schnur said in an interview. “It’s been a team effort. It’s not me, it’s the community out here that supported it and made the book successful so I’d like to thank everybody who contributed to the success of this book and I hope they all buy it.”
The book is titled Butler’s Diamond in the Rough and is available to pre-order now. The Butler Historical Society provided assistance and Schnur donated the book to the organization so that it will be available far into the future.
According to Schnur, many different local residents contributed to the collection by authoring different sections and the book also contains many photographs.
“I had accumulated four milk cartons of material so I had a lot of information compiled for resources,” he said. “In addition to that, we have 30 other authors, people from the 40s to the present who experienced fond memories of Pullman Park over 84 years and they wrote their memories in the book.”
The special pre-sale price is $22 paperback and $32 hardcover plus tax through April 14. Books will be available for pickup May 1 and proceeds benefit the Butler Historical Society.
