The Butler Area School Board has approved entering into an agreement with a company to provide a new field surface at the football stadium.
The board voted 5-3 vote with one abstention to approve a contract with A-Turf to replace the current field surface with a rubber-based turf system at a cost of just over $435,000.
Since only a limited number of companies provide this service, acting director of business services Nick Morelli obtained proposals from the top three vendors. This offer includes labor costs, as well as all licenses, fees and a 10-year warranty.
Butler’s football stadium currently has a Field Turf system that is 12 years old and has exceeded the expected life of the product, according to district officials.
Money to pay for this project will come from the district’s recent bond issue that was taken out for capital projects. Work is expected to be completed by the time the field is needed for band practice at the end of the summer.
