Butler Township has enacted a revised floodplain ordinance and plans to inform those affected.
Following a public hearing Monday night, the Butler Township Commissioners finalized the new ordinance, which includes a new FEMA Flood Rate Insurance Map.
Using new mapping technology, 220 properties in the township have been removed from the flood plain classification and 15 have been added. Since this map will likely change insurance rates for those property owners, the township plans to send out notices to everyone who is affected within the next two weeks to a month.
The ordinance is provided by the PA Department of Community and Economic Development with limited opportunity for local variations. Because of the new map, every municipality across the county and state is in the process of approving a similar ordinance.
