A group of Butler City residents would like to see a zoning ordinance changed to allow for their neighborhood to be designated a historic district.
A representative from the PA Historic Preservation Office made a presentation and answered questions as part of the Wednesday night meeting of the Architectural Review Committee.
Many members of the Ritts Park neighborhood have expressed interest in the zoning change which would designate property within the district as R1 as well as establish a design ethic with input from the community. The goal of the designation would be to attract residents through the preservation of the historic look of that part of the Butler community.
Councilman Jeff Smith said that the necessary ordinance is still being worked on but could be presented to council at the July meeting. A process including a public hearing to adopt the ordinance as well as the creation of a review board could be complete by November.
