Proposed legislation would change Election Day from the first Tuesday in November to the weekend after the first Friday in November.
State Rep. Kevin Boyle (D-Montgomery/Phila) says this is an attempt to boost voter turnout.
“In the most recent presidential election, just 55 percent of voting-age Americans participated,” he said.
Boyle says Tuesday voting dates back to the 1840s when most Americans lived on farms and Election Day was held after the Sabbath and before market day.
