This year’s state budget includes more money for school security.
Starting this fall, districts can apply for grant funding to improve safety and security on their campuses. The money can be used for hiring police officers or school psychologists, conducting safety and security assessments, or paying for anti-violence programs.
The funding also helps implement the “Safe 2 Say” program, which will allow for anonymous reporting of threats to schools, which will then be passed along to police.
The new program is in response to February’s school shooting in Parkland, Florida that killed 17 people.
