A local organization is working with the city as it gives back to the community through improvements to a Butler area park.
In his role as representative of Butler P.M. Rotary, Dennis Baglier shared with Butler City Council during a meeting on Tuesday about the ideas that the Rotary has for a project at Rotary Park.
The group plans to erect a 24-by-36-foot shelter near the intersection of Chestnut and Cunningham streets, similar to the one at the Institute Hill Playground. The group also plans to expand an area with a basketball hoop to a full-size court. The new facility could then be used for summer programs and athletic activities.
The group is accepting donations of time and materials for the structure, which will be near an existing police camera and could include a new light for added security. The city is considering waiving all building permit fees pending an agreement that would cover long-term maintenance and care.
