The Cranberry Township Community Chest has announced the 2019 Project of the Year will be improvements to Cranberry’s public library.
The first part of the project will be outfitting the library with new capabilities like the creation of a makerspace which is a small workshop that includes tools and work benches. This facility is designed for collaboration and making things in a hands-on learning environment.
Improvements will also be made to existing facilities through technology upgrades like the instillation of a radio frequency identification system that uses electronic signals rather than bar code scanning to improve filing and checkouts. Automatic sliding doors, energy efficient LED lighting, light-enhanced painting, environmentally friendly carpeting, and improvements to ergonomics are also planned.
Organizers say this will be the largest community chest project ever undertaken, with an estimated budget of $750,000.
