The Mars School Board has committed not to increase their tax millage rate for next year above the index set by the state.
The board made the decision by a unanimous vote Tuesday night, which locks them in to a maximum millage increase of 2.3 percent when planning the budget for the 2019-2020 school year.
This index figure is set by the state annually. It is not possible to raise taxes over that rate unless permission is granted by voters for specific exceptional circumstances.
Mars increased real estate taxes last year for the first time in a decade, but has never petitioned the state to increase taxes beyond the state index.
