Two Summit Academy students were apprehended after they escaped from the facility over the weekend.
The two unidentified students left the Herman school about 5:30 p.m. Saturday. Nearby residents were issued an alert urging them to lock their homes and vehicles, and asked not to interact with the pair.
The alert read:
Please be aware that two students have left the grounds of Summit Academy and are believed to be in the area. The students are not dangerous, but please take a moment to lock your cars and your doors and please do not interact with them. If you see the students please call Summit Academy at 724-282-1995.
The students were apprehended a short time later.
Summit Academy is a private, residential program for boys and young men ages 14 to 19 who have committed juvenile and adult criminal offenses. Last year, a warning system was put in place to notify nearby residents when a student escapes.
