Students attending community colleges may now be able to get financial help to buy groceries.
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, helps people afford a nutritious diet through up to $192 a month in benefits to be used to buy food at grocery stores.
In the past, most college students could only get SNAP if they were working part-time, participating in work study, had young children, or health issues. A recent policy change extends eligibility to community college students enrolled in programs that improve employability.
Those interested in more information or finding out if they qualify should contact the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank by phone or online.
