Two children needed medical attention as a result of a crash Thursday afternoon in Mercer County.
According to State Police, 25-year-old Melanie Bell of Franklin, Venango County was driving in Otter Creek Township around 1:30 p.m. when she fell asleep and lost control.
Bell’s vehicle went off the right side of the roadway and hit a tree head on. Bell was not injured; however, a 7-year-old girl in the passenger seat needed to be flown by STAT Medevac to UPMC Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh with unknown injuries. A 3-year-old boy in the rear of the vehicle was transported by ambulance to UPMC Greenville for treatment of unknown injuries.
Bell will be cited with driving while operating privilege is suspended as well as child safety restraint system and other moving violations.
