The Butler high school Girls Bowling team finished runner-up at the WPIBL Championships Thursday at Noble Manor Lanes in Pittsburgh. Butler qualified third, then defeated section-rival Shaler 2-0 in the first “Baker” round, then lost 2-1 to Burrell in the championship match. It was a rematch of the 2018 championship won by Butler.
Sophomore Reegan Malis led Butler with a 557 series and high game of 197. She had the third-highest series of the tournament and was named to the WPIBL All-Tournament team.
Butler defeated Shaler 207-140 and 177-127 in the Baker semifinals. In the best of three championship match Burrell won the opening game 153-136. Butler won game two 192-152, before Burrell took the title 168-151.
Nine Butler bowlers will compete in the WPIBL Singles Championships next week.
