Two groups of Slippery Rock University students will be helping out Butler Township over the next few months, while at the same time earning credits toward graduation.
Public relations students at SRU will be helping Butler Township create and execute two different campaigns through the spring semester. One will be focused on recruitment of volunteer firefighters and the other on increasing knowledge of the township’s new recycling program.
The students plan to survey the community and conduct focus groups in order to design and implement the right campaign to get the desired result. By learning what attracts people to become volunteer firemen or what people know about recycling options, growth can be possible, the students told the commissioners.
The students are expected to deliver campaign proposals to the commissioners at the end of March and customize implementation based on feedback they receive. This project is part of the students’ capstone requirement for graduation.
