A new club at Butler Senior High School is forming bonds of friendship between students who might not have associated in the past.
At their meeting Monday night, members of the Butler Area School Board heard from several members of Butler’s Best Buddies Club.
Best Buddies is an international non-profit organization with a mission to create opportunities for one-to-one friendship between students with intellectual or developmental disabilities and other peer students. Buddy pairs talk at least once a week, spend time together at least twice a month, and gather for group activities once a month.
In the first year of existence at Butler, this program already has 75 members, as well as 22 buddy pairs. Several students spoke about this rewarding experience, as well as upcoming events such as an Easter-themed 5K race/fun-run/walk/egg hunt fundraiser planned for April.
