The two U.S. Congressman who represent the majority of Butler County residents have voted against a bill blocking President Trump’s national emergency declaration.
The House vote fell below the two-thirds majority needed to override Trump’s promise to veto the bill, if it also passes in the Senate.
Trump saw support from republican Congressman Glenn Thompson and Mike Kelly, who voted against it.
“President Trump declared a national emergency on our southern border to fix a problem that has existed for decades and has consistently dodged a legislative solution. Illegal immigrants, drugs, crime, and other threats to the safety and security of the American people are easily crossing our border. Action must be taken,” Kelly said in a statement following the vote.
The Senate has 18 days to act on the bill.
