Next year is the year 2020, which means it’s time for another census.
What Pennsylvania is doing to prepare was a focus of discussion during a recent budget hearing before the House Appropriations Committee.
The Department of Community and Economic Development is the lead state agency preparing for the census.
Secretary Dennis Davin says there are possible big consequences if Pennsylvania doesn’t get an accurate count of its population.
“We estimate there could be losses of up to $2,100 per person not counted appropriately, which would be devastating for Pennsylvania so we want to get this right,” he said.
Butler County’s population in 2010 was just under 184,000 people.
