Thomas E. Wiles, age 94, of the Masonic Village of Sewickley, PA, formerly of Butler, passed away on Saturday, March 2.
He was born May 9, 1924 in Rowlesburg, West Virginia to the late Harry A. and Mabel Truetle Wiles.
Tom served in the European and Pacific Theaters of World War IIas a Yeoman 2nd Class, piloting troop landing craft to enemy beaches. He married his Butler High School sweetheart, Jean F. Keck, on September 11, 1948. Tom graduated from Robert Morris College with a degree in accounting. He was the Sales Manager for many years at Universal Motor Sales, then along with Jean, owned Wiles Airstream Trailer Sales, and subsequently, Wiles Variety Store in Butler.
He was an active member of the First English Lutheran Church, where he was a Council member, usher, and counter. Tom and Jean supervised the after school church youth program for many years. He also was a 70 year member of Butler Lodge #272 Free and Accepted Masons.
Tom loved flying his amphibious seaplane and was an avid golfer, playing in a league until age 92. Hunting was another hobby which he still pursued at age 94. He and Jean enjoyed ocean cruises and traveling in their Airstream trailer. Tom had boundless love for, and devotion to, his family and wide circle of friends, country wide.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Jean K. Wiles; his brother Fred Wiles; one son, Thomas (Rebecca) Wiles; one daughter, Judith (Kevin) Rorabaugh; four grandchildren, Christopher (Melissa) Rorabaugh, Lauren (Noah Marble) Wiles, Logan (Alexa) Wiles, and Anna (Louie Conte) Wiles; five great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Madison, and Audrey Rorabaugh, and Claire and Alice Marble.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Harry Wiles and Richard Wiles, and one grandson, Scott Rorabaugh.
Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, March 6th, 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Thompson – Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street Butler, PA. A funeral service will follow the visitation at 3:00 p.m. with retired Pastor James W. Dollhopf, officiating
Burial will take place in North Side Cemetery of Butler, PA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial are suggested to First English Lutheran Church, 241 N. Main St, Butler, PA 16001.
