The special election for the next state senator to serve Pennsylvania’s 41st District will likely be held during this May’s primary.
The lieutenant governor is responsible for setting the date for a special election when a vacancy occurs, and has 10 days from the vacancy date to do so.
State Senator Don White retired on Feb. 28, so the lieutenant governor should be making an announcement soon, according to Senator White’s former chief of staff, and now candidate for the seat, Joe Pittman.
“Practically speaking, it will appear he will set it on the May primary date,” Pittman said Monday. “That certainly was Sen. White’s hope when he chose the timing of his resignation because setting up a special election outside of a regular election date can be very costly.”
This year’s primary election will be on Tuesday, May 21.
