High School Sports:
PIAA Basketball:
–The Mars Boys defeated York William Penn 60-59 last night in the 5A Second Round. Andrew Recchia led the Planets with 23 points.
–WPIAL champion New Castle defeated Grove City in the 4A Second Round at Slippery Rock University 74-67.
–The AC Valley Girls shocked WPIAL champion Our Lady of Sacred Heart 35-33 in overtime last night in the 2A Second Round. Olivia Boocks led the Lady Falcons with 18 points. Not only are the AC Valley Girls heading into the PIAA quarterfinals for the first time in school history, but head coach Dave Sherman earned his 100th victory with the program.
–The North Allegheny Girls were knocked out of the 6A tournament by defending state champion Upper Dublin 41-32.
Tonight:
–The Butler Boys will face Coatsville in the second round. The game will be played at Chambersburg high school beginning at 7:30pm. WBUT will carry the game beginning at 7:20pm.
–Pine-Richland and will face Kennedy Catholic at Slippery Rock University. Tip-off is 7:30pm.
–The Slippery Rock Girls will face undefeated WPIAL champion Chartiers Valley Wednesday at Moon high school. Tip-off is 6pm.
–The North Catholic Girls will meet Blackhawk at Fox Chapel high school. Tip-off is 6pm.
