If you still have yet to file your taxes, you may be able to take advantage of a free, local service.
VITA- also known as the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program- is available for those with a family income of less than $50,000 per year. Trained volunteers prepare and file your federal and state taxes at no charge.
The program is run through the Center for Community Resources in Butler but there are several locations throughout the county where you can visit to meet a preparer.
Officials tout the program as two-fold because it gets money back in the pockets of Butler residents, but also brings cash back into the community.
