Drivers won’t be able to fill up at a popular gas station in Butler Township for the next several months. This is because a project to demolish the Sheetz- at the corner of Route 68 and Meridian Road- has begun.
Whilst many will be disappointed by this news, there is a positive: the company is building a new, prototype store at the same location, which will be bigger and include a drive-thru. There is also a high chance that it will contain updated technology that is appropriate for this modern era. One such example of this type of technology is iPad point of sale (POS) systems, which are starting to become more and more common in restaurants, but are also beginning to find their way into other retail locations. With the right type of hardware alongside these systems (e.g. https://revelsystems.com/hardware/), the new store should see smooth operations and an exceptional experience for both employees and customers. In addition to potentially seeing iPads, we may also see more familiar systems like card machines for payments, barcode scanners, etc, that are all linked up to this new system. No doubt drivers will still be able to purchase their gas station essentials once the work is complete and, as well as the new drive-thru, Sheetz also hopes to sell alcohol when it reopens.
Local firefighters got the chance to hold a training exercise at the store on Tuesday night. Butler City and Township Joint Fire Chief Chris Switala said firefighters were also able to practice on a home, which was purchased by Sheetz and will also be demolished to make way for the new store.
Firefighters from the city of Butler, Butler Township, and Unionville took part in the training exercises. Chief Switala said commercial structures- like convenience stores- are not made available for firefighter use very often since some of the training involves causing damage necessary when fighting a fire.
The new Sheetz in Butler Township is expected to open sometime this fall. To help with the advertisement of this new store, implementing a flag pole waving their business banner can catch potential customers’ eyes, as well as solar powered flagpole lighting for the evenings.
