Union workers at AK Steel’s Butler plant are now working under terms of an expired contract after voting this week to reject the latest deal.
Members of UAW Local 3303 voted Monday night to reject a tentative contract, according to the company and several sources. The vote to reject was reportedly favored by 80 percent of all union members. The previous contract expired on Tuesday.
Changes in health insurance premiums, deductibles and co-pays were reportedly the sticking points for union members.
AK Steel spokesperson Lisa Jester confirmed that a tentative agreement was not approved by the union. She says both parties have agreed to continue negotiations and during this time, the terms of the existing contract will remain in effect.
Jester refused to comment on the details of the latest proposal.
