The Mars Area High School Student Council collected more than $7,000 through the school’s inaugural mini-THON fundraiser last week.
The event was modeled after Penn State University’s Dance Marathon, where students commit to standing for 46 hours straight to raise money for pediatric cancer.
Mars’ event lasted for 5.5 hours.

Also last week, the Mars Area Primary Center collected over 7,000 diapers as part of the school’s “Stuff The Bus” Diaper Drive to benefit a local food bank.
The fundraiser was held in conjunction with the National Week of the Young Child. The diapers were taken to The Lighthouse Foundation food bank in Middlesex Township, where they will be distributed to families in need.
