The city of Butler will host a couple of bicycle races this summer that could end up making money to help maintain city parks.
During a meeting on Thursday, Butler City Council approved an agreement to allow JMac Cycling to use Memorial Park Drive in Memorial Park for races on May 26 and August 25.
Butler City Councilman Jeff Smith told the board the events could bring hundreds of cyclists and spectators into the city.
The events will not cost the city any money and the organizer has pledged $10 from every cyclist entry fee to help with park development, according to Smith.
Spectators will be able to observe the race at no charge.
Besides raising funds for city parks, many believe that this event is hosted for making people aware of the health benefits of cycling. Not only is this activity socially oriented, but also fun.
Moreover, cycling can have many health benefits. Firstly, it builds muscles. When you are in the phase of peddling, you make use of the muscles in the buttocks, thigh, and calves. Secondly, cycling can benefit anybody with joint pain. When you sit on a bike, you put your weight on a pair of bones in the pelvis (which is good for the bones). Thirdly, this outdoor activity can increase bone density. Resistance activities (such as pushing pedals) pull on the muscles and then the muscles pull on the bone. Lastly, cycling provides an aerobic workout, which can be extremely beneficial for the heart, brain, and blood vessels. However, cyclists who want to participate in this event may have to have proper outfits that can help them achieve complete flexibility. For example, they may have to purchase good quality, lightweight tracksuits for men or women, which are comfortable and breathable.
