Cooler weather and shorter days are now here—and that means so are the number of deer-related crashes.
According to AAA, deer-vehicle collisions begin to spike in October and peak during November and December.
The latest data shows that there were 5,581 deer-related crashes in Pennsylvania in 2020.
It can also be an expensive accident, with the average insurance claim in the region at $5,000.
AAA says that drivers should be really attentive during the windows of 5-8 a.m. and 5-8 p.m., when deer are active.
They also remind drivers to pay attention to road signs that warn of deer crossings and to keep your eyes on the road at all times.
