AAA is reminding drivers of safe driving habits during National Distracted Driving Awareness Month.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that more than 360,000 people were injured due to distracted driving in 2021.
According to The AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, 40 percent of drivers are guilty of a double standard. Saying that they believe it’s extremely dangerous to text or email while driving but still admitted to doing it in the previous 30 days.
To avoid being a distracted driver AAA has provided these tips:
- Put aside electronic devices
- Prepare to drive by setting the GPS, seats, mirrors, and other necessities to drive safely
- Don’t do your hair or makeup while driving
- Secure pets, children, and any other items that needed secured
- Have passengers respond to messages or mange the radio
- Offer to assist the driver when needed
