The holiday rush is getting underway as more people are expected to take to the roads, rails and sky than ever before.
AAA says 107 million Americans will travel during the year-end holiday period, which runs from Saturday (DEC. 23) through Jan. 1.
“We’re estimating that the volume for year-end holiday travel has grown by 25 percent,” Analyst Marita Williams with AAA East Central, which serves Pennsylvania. “That’s the largest record that we’ve had in recent years.”
If you’re driving to your destination, Williams suggests possibly traveling on the holiday itself – Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve or New Year’s Day.
“If you have some flexible, I would suggest it,” she said. “You’ll find a lot less traffic, especially on the Pennsylvania Turnpike.”
This is expected to be the highest year-end travel volume on record and a 3 percent increase in travel volume over last year.
