To the surprise of some, gas prices in the area continue to go down.
According to AAA’s weekly gas price report, the average price for a gallon of regular, unleaded, self-serve in Butler is $2.66. That’s nine cents cheaper- per gallon- than last week.
In the last two weeks, prices have decreased locally about a quarter per gallon.
The average price for a gallon in western Pennsylvania as a whole is $2.85, down seven cents from last week.
AAA analysts say the national average of gasoline is six cents cheaper this week at $2.68, which marks a consistent downward trend since Memorial Day, which is unusual for this time of year.
According to the Oil Price Information Service (OPIS), strong production output and increased imports have helped gasoline storage levels grow consistently over the past four weeks.
