As children return to school, AAA is launching its annual School’s Open-Drive Carefully campaign, reminding everyone of road safety.
The campaign asks parents to talk with their children and teen drivers about road safety. It also asks drivers to be extra alert in school zones, especially during school hours.
When pedestrians are hit by vehicles going 20 miles per hour compared to those going 30 mph, there is a two-thirds less likely chance they are killed.
Along with slowing down AAA is offering other safety advice:
- Ditch all distractions
- Stay alert when behind the wheel
- Always brake for buses dropping off children
- Talk to your teen about safe driving practices
- Come to a complete stop when passing crosswalks
- Plan head to avoid speeding to your destination
