Pennsylvania will collect over $2.5 million following a settlement with Honda over the alleged concealment of safety issues.
According to Attorney General Josh Shapiro, an $85 million agreement was reached between 48 attorneys general and the auto manufacturer.
The safety concerns center on defective airbag systems installed in certain Honda and Acura vehicles beginning in 2001. Shapiro and his colleagues allege Honda failed to inform regulators and consumers that the airbags posed a significant danger.
As part of the settlement Honda has agreed to take steps to ensure that future airbag designs include fail-safe features to protect motorists. Honda is also required to adopt changes to its procurement process, implement prevention procedures, and prohibit misleading advertisements.
Customers who own a Honda or Acura should visit Honda’s airbag recall website to see if free repairs at an authorized Honda dealer are necessary.
