Pennsylvania’s top law enforcement administrator is beginning his second term with a look back on his first as well as ahead to the challenges of the future.
Attorney General Josh Shapiro was sworn in Tuesday in Harrisburg for another four year term. Shapiro observed a moment of silence to honor the victims of COVID-19.
“The pandemic has taken a personal toll on all of us,” Shapiro said. “While vaccines have been distributed this is far from over. We are all relying on each other.”
During his swearing-in speech Shapiro reflected on the hiring of a large number of diverse employees, investigating the cover-up by the Catholic Church of abuse by priests, protecting seniors from fraud, and suing the makers of Oxycontin for connections to the opioid crisis.
Shapiro anticipates time spent on health and economic recovery over the next four years as well as racial inequality and political tensions.
