Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday is warning residents about the threat of their data being sold as a company head into bankruptcy.
With the genetic testing company 23andMe begins bankruptcy proceedings the final day to delete your personal data and not a part of bankruptcy court is July 14.
Consumers may also be able to file a claim if their personal data or genetic information was exposed after a 2023 data breach. If you are a 23andMe consumer you can delete you genetic and personal data by:
- Going to the “Settings” section of your profile.
- Go to the section labeled “23andMe Data” at the bottom of the page.
- Click “View” next to “23andMe Data.”
- Download your data if you’d want to retain a copy of your genetic data for personal storage.
- Scroll down to the “Delete Data” section.
- Click “Permanently Delete Data.”
- Confirm your request by following the instructions emailed to you by 23andMe. You must confirm the request to have your data removed.
