Pennsylvania’s top law enforcement official has reached a deal with two more companies in connection with the opioid epidemic.
Attorney General Josh Shapiro and 17 other attorneys general reached a $5 billion agreement with CVS as well as another with Walgreens in the amount of $5.7 billion.
Pennsylvania will receive about $217 million over a 10 year period from CVS as well as about $236 million over 15 years from Walgreens. This agreement also requires the companies to monitor, report, and share data about suspicious activity related to opoid prescriptions.
Including these settlements, over $54 billion has been secured in settlements with opoid manufacturers and distributors with over $2 billion dedicated to Pennsylvania. Local governments will be offered the chance to sign onto this agreement early next year with funds available to remediate the opioid crisis through prevention and recovery services.
