The Winnipeg Jets defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-1 last night at PPG Paints Arena. It was the first time since Winnipeg became an expansion franchise in the NHL in 2011 that they won a game in Pittsburgh. Sidney Crosby scored half a minute into the game for the only Penguins goal, despite 38 shots. Matt Murray stopped just 18 of 22 shots.
The Pens lost forward Patric Hornquist to an injury in the first period. The Pens are already without Evgeni Malkin, Bryan Rust and Nick Bjugstad. Couple the Hornquist injury last night with Coach Mike Sullivan’s decision to go with seven defenseman in the game, the Pens scoring chances were depleted as the game progressed.
The Pens will host Anaheim Thursday.
Former Penguin James Neal had his first career four-goal game last night as Edmonton defeated the New York Islanders 5-2. It was his seventh career hat trick, but first since March of 2016.
