Alabama wide receiver DeVonta Smith has become the first receiver to win the Heisman Trophy since Michigan’s Desmond Howard in 1991. Smith finished with 447 first-place votes and had nearly 700 total points more than runner-up Trevor Lawrence of Clemson. Quarterback Mac Jones of Alabama was third.
With Alabama running back Najee Harris finishing in fifth place, the Crimson Tide became just the second program to have three of the top five finishers since Army did so in 1946.
The college football season will wrap up Monday night with the National Championship game between Alabama and Ohio State. Kick-off in Miami is scheduled for 8pm, however, reports are building that there are virus issues within the Ohio State program – that could force delay of the game.
