Hundreds of runners and walkers are expected in the Meridian area tomorrow evening to raise funds in honor of two young women.
All Saints Parish is hosting the second annual Twilight 5K and One Mile Run and Walk at St. Conrad’s Church on Buttercup Road.
Proceeds from the race benefit the Sarah Kasunic and Emily Leyland Scholarship Fund at Butler Catholic School. The two young women were BCS alumni who passed away at an early age. Hank Leyland is Emily’s father, and he says the event serves as a way to bring the community together.
“Everyone has a story. Some people deal with it quietly, others deal with it in different ways. But, the fact is that you can come together in a place where everybody can take a little bit of love away from that,” Leyland said. “It’s that gathering of people that gives everyone strength.”
Runners and walkers can sign up tomorrow at the race. Registration begins at 5:30 p.m., with the event starting at 7 p.m.
