Anna Mae Shimell Geibel, age 97, of Butler, PA, went home to her Lord and Savior on January 22, 2018 while under the care of Concordia Good Samaritan Hospice, Cabot, PA. She was born August 30, 1920, in North Washington, PA to Ray Amon and Mary Rohrer Shimell.
Anna Mae grew up on a farm and understood the meaning of hard work. She and her husband were the proprietors of the Meridian Electric Store and the Meridian Bowling Lanes. In later years, she worked at the Butler Family Drug Store.
She attended the Meridian Presbyterian Church when her sons were growing up, but later attended Homeacre Chapel and was involved with the children’s ministries. She was a Cub Scout den mother. During summers her family spent many memorable weekends at their cottage on the Clarion River boating, water skiing, and swimming. Before her husband passed, she spent winters with him in Florida. Anna Mae enjoyed cooking, gardening, and crocheting. In later years, she enjoyed annual trips with friends to Cook Forest and staying in a lodge.
She is survived by her three sons: Ronald E. (Darlene) Geibel, John L. (Shirley) Geibel, and Kenneth R. Geibel. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Deborah Hines, Susan (Mark) McLafferty, Daniel (Taryn) Hines, Amy (Eric) Miller, Andrew Geibel, Paul (Beth) Geibel, Karen (Matthew) Chill, Eric Geibel; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Anna Mae was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Edward J. Geibel, on June 10, 1992; brothers, Charles Shimell and Robert Shimell; and sisters, Agnes Heidenreich and Florence Werner.
Family and friends will be received from 1 – 4 pm on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, Inc, 124 E. North St., Butler, PA 16001. Following the viewing, a funeral service at 4pm will be held at the funeral home.
