Traffic is still congested on I-79 southbound after two tractor trailer crashes this morning.
The first accident happened just after 8 a.m. near mile marker 101—which is just north of the Route 422 exit. Dispatchers say the truck rolled over the hillside before coming to rest on its side. Crews added that everyone was out of the vehicle, although it’s unclear if there were injuries.
And then around 9:45 a.m. while crews had just started to clear the initial accident, two tractor trailers collided in the southbound lane near mile marker 103. Crews also say a third vehicle was involved in the crash.
One of the tractor trailers was leaking fuel, which required the Butler County hazmat team to be called in for cleanup. Crews contained the spill within the hour, but clean up was expected to take a while.
It’s unclear if there were any significant injuries in these accidents—although EMS crews were called to both scenes.
Again, traffic is still currently delayed at this time and officials urge using alternative routes.
