Since 2008, the month of April has been recognized by Congress as 9-1-1 Education Month.
During the month long observance, a variety of emergency groups are offering information to the public that can help everyone during potential emergencies.
According to the Butler County PA Emergency Services’ Facebook page, using a cell phone to call a 9-1-1 center is different than using a landline. Officials say that location information from a cell phone is not always available to dispatchers for a variety of reasons. One such reason may be that the phone is not equipped with location technology.
Authorities also remind the public that they should be ready to provide location information, and the number they are calling from when reporting an emergency situation.
