The Armco Credit Union awarded $10,000 in scholarships to 20 graduating high school seniors.
The students were selected from 54 qualified applicants based on academic and extracurricular achievement. Students attending college and vocational schools were eligible. This is the second year the credit union has provided scholarships for higher education.
The recipients and their guests met for an award ceremony luncheon last week, and students were presented with a certificate by Ralph Boosel, President of the Armco Credit Union Board of Directors.
In his remarks to the students, Mr. Boosel stated the scholarships are a way of giving back to the community.
“We’re certainly proud of all the students’ accomplishments and we’re already looking forward to continuing the program next year,” Boosel said.
“What these young people are going to be able to give back to the community is so much farther reaching than what we’ve been able to give to them, but we’re so glad to be a part of their college education,” said John Gibson, member of the credit union Board of Directors.
Armco Credit Union is the third largest credit union in western PA, owned by its 30,000 members, with $363 million in assets.
