Freezing cold temperatures are coming early next week and it can be dangerous if you’re not prepared.
Overnight temperatures are expected to be around negative ten degrees early next week as a “blast of artic air” is coming into the area.
“Temperatures are going to drop off real fast. We have high temperatures on Monday and Tuesday in the single digits,” Tim Cermack, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service said. “Overnight temperatures are going to be as low as -10 and that’s not accounting for the wind chill.”
With such low temperatures Cermack says that long out door exposure can be dangerous.
“Try not to be outside for too long. With temperatures that cold you could get frostbite very quickly, especially if any skin is exposed,” Cermack said. “Try to stay bundled up and stay inside.”
When using a space heater make sure you never plug them into a power out let or leave them on for extended period of times. Also, never use a backup generator indoors as it can lead to carbon monoxide poisoning.
Cermack also said the NWS has been in contact with power companies to alert them of the potential increase of heat usage.
