Another local attorney has announced plans to run for the open judge seat in the Butler County Court of Common Pleas.
Terri Schultz set up private practice in Butler after law school in the 1990s and spent time practicing all types of law. She then became the first full-time public defender and spent 23 years in that position before becoming an assistant district attorney.
“When anyone is looking for a judge, they are looking for experience…and that’s one of the things I would bring to the bench,” Shultz said Monday. “Most of the candidates that are running are assuming this is going to be a family law judge vacancy; however, our administration has not made that determination so I think it’s important that people have practiced all types of law.”
Schultz points to the decision recently made by her friend attorney Tom Breth to withdraw his name from consideration as motivation to join the race at this time.
Schultz is the fifth candidate currently running in this race. Local attorneys Matt Fischer, Nicole Thurner, Jennifer Gilliland Vanasdale and William “Wink” Robinson have also announced their intentions to run.
The Butler County judge seat was vacated by Judge Marilyn Horan last year when she was confirmed as a federal judge.
