Pennsylvania’s top law enforcement official is urging residents to take precautions as scammers try to take advantage around the holidays.
According to Attorney General Josh Shapiro, many common online scams are expected to increase in frequency around this holiday season because the pandemic is forcing more people online.
Common scams include email and text phishing, delivery thefts, credit card skimming, romance scams, online pet scams, fraudulent pop-up advertisements, and fake marketplace deals. Consumers are advised to install the latest security updates and run regular virus scans on computers as well as use a credit card when paying online for better protection.
Anyone who believes that they may have been a victim of scams like these is asked to contact the Attorney General’s Bureau of Consumer Protection.
