Pennsylvania’s top law enforcement official has announced that an agreement has been reached with 12 major phone companies to combat the increase of spoofed calls and texts.
Attorney General Josh Shapiro is one of 51 attorneys general to reach the agreement with companies like AT&T, Comcast, Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon concerning principles targeted and improving prevention and enforcement against illegal robocalls.
The companies have pledged to offer some form of call-blocking services at no charge and monitor their networks for robocall traffic. They have also committed to working with law enforcement to trace the origins of robocalls and take action against suspicious callers.
Finally, the phone companies will stay in close communication with the attorneys general about new technology available for robocall protection as scammer techniques change.
