Our “Back to School” series focusing on school’s efforts to reopen continues today as we highlight AC Valley.
It’s a unique district that spans four counties—the only one like that in Pennsylvania. Superintendent Dr. David McDeavitt says they are constantly looking at coronavirus data from all those counties, but primarily focus on Clarion County.
“We’re located in Clarion County, so we’ve been basing all our decisions on data coming from Clarion County because the bulk of our students are in Clarion and Venango,” McDeavitt said.
McDeavitt said the district has been prepping the school to make it safe for students—that includes extending hours to allow parents to drop and pick students up for a longer period of time.
“We’re opening up the school early. We’re going to have it staffed beginning at 7 a.m. so that we can have parents have the opportunity to drop their children off before work,” McDeavitt said. “We’ll also stay open until 4 p.m. to provide parents more time to pick the kids up after work.”
“That’s going to help reduce the number of students on our transportation fleet,” McDeavitt added.
AC Valley begins their school year next Monday.
